Playing with My Assassin Dolls

Ever since I had back surgery, I have despised winter. The dropping temperatures bring pain. Removing the illusion of summertime invincibility. Reminding me that I can feel weather like an old man.

Woke up this morning in pain. We have a cold front moving through this afternoon. Temperatures will top out in the mid 70’s today before plunging down into the 20’s. Woo-hoo!

Pain equals not staying in bed. So I got up, fired up my PS4, and played some Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Syndicate presents a world that feels lived-in. And yet, for all the simulated life going on, I feel like I’m witnessing/playing with Barbies. There is something fake about it all. Some barrier that the developers just can’t seem to break past.

I’ve also been playing Batman: Arkham Knight. Same type of open world game as Syndicate. However, Arkham Knight manages to move past the feel of playing with “action figures”. The combination of voice work, animation, and story blend together to create a believable reality.

My time gaming ended when my son got up. The quiet morning hour replaced with a kid who clearly wants the TV. Oh well. I enjoyed my time spent with my headphones on, playing with my assassin dolls.

Stardew Valley Fatigue

The boy and I took a trip to Stardew Valley on the PS4 this week.

As we cleared Westbrook Farm for planting, we found ourselves growing tired by 8am. Something was/is wrong.

Take a look at the bottom right side of the screen above. In talking to friends, I’ve learned there is an energy meter that should be there. A further Google search revealed that publisher Chucklefish Games is aware of the issue.

Hello! Chucklefish person here!

We’re aware that older TVs (2008 or older) are having an issue with the resolution, and we’re working with Sickhead Games on a fix.

In the meantime, you may be able to adjust the game slightly to the right on your TV so that the energy bar is visible. I know this isn’t an ideal option, so we’ll aim to get this fixed as soon as we can.

So I guess we’ll be staying away from Stardew Valley until the screen size issue is patched. Can’t wait to come back!

Note: Captured some video to highlight the screen size issue. Realized my mistake, that the issue is only on my screen, once I watched the video. DUH!

From Across the Net: “Yancey: Obstetrician’s personal experience with infertility ….. and a dog”

Infertility is a lonely disease. It is a feeling of loss before there’s ever been a found. The feelings and emotions are indescribable to those who have never experienced it. You try not to be bitter. You try to be optimistic. It gets harder every day. Your friends are now working on their second, third or fourth child. You smile and say congratulations. Deep down you just don’t feel it, but you don’t want to be perceived as cold and uncaring. Friends and family attempt to make you feel better, but they just don’t understand. How could they understand that which they would never experience.
