From Across the Net: “Don’t be THAT Christian Gamer! A video from Gamechurch.”

This is one of those videos where I appreciate the sentiment but not the execution.

Do you think that this video reinforces stereotypes that non-Christians have towards people of faith?

Did you watch the whole thing?

From Across the Net: “We Built A Desk And Survived”

Tim Baker, over at The Nerd Theist, wrote a post titled “We Built A Desk And Survived”. I love how he honestly captures the dad mindset when it comes to doing projects with your kids.

“Father and Son projects have always been interesting for us. Typically it ends with my temper flaring and him getting mad, distracted, or in tears.”

Moving on

I stepped down as Community Manager of Theology Gaming a few weeks ago. After three years of cultivating conversation and community, I’m done. The mental background noise of what began to feel like a part time job has diminished. I am free. And yet, I miss the online community where I could throw ideas at the wall to see what stuck.
Right now, I find myself evaluating:
  • Where to go next.
  • What to do with my blog.
  • And on a deeper level, what it means to interact with others online. The internet is weird when it comes to relationships. Instant messaging brings about a false sense of freedom in conversation. You find yourself saying things that you’d never say in physical space. Even weirder, the internet lacks permanence. You can talk to people for years and then poof, they are gone. What does that mean? How are we supposed to react?

JohnnyBGamer has always been my space, online, to create and share. That won’t stop anytime soon.

Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch Super Bowl LI Commericial

The Nintendo Switch Super Bowl Commercial came out yesterday. Showcasing the new console’s strength, playing games with others. This is Nintendo bringing back the feels from the playground Pokémon games of youth as well as the Wii era. Cooperative play at its finest.

I can’t wait to:

  • Wake up and play Zelda in bed. My wife won’t mind…
  • Punch my kid in the living room. Virtually, of course.
  • Live out my western quick draw fantasies.
  • Dance?
  • Force neighborhood children to watch me and my son play a two player game of Mario Kart. Seriously, who needs more players crowding up the home TV.
  • Discover new/rich friends who each have their own Nintendo Switch.

Will you be making the Switch?

In the hard moments

My chest hurts today. I’m not sure why. All I know is that it feels like someone is sitting on me. Someone large; Someone heavy.

I read this morning that:

God is working right now, but not so much to give us predictable, comfortable, and pleasurable lives. He isn’t so much working to transform our circumstances as he is working through hard circumstances to transform you and me. Perhaps in hard moments, when we are tempted to wonder where God’s grace is, it is grace that we are getting, but not grace in the form of a soft pillow or a cool drink. Rather, in those moments, we are being blessed with the heart-transforming grace of difficulty because the God who loves us knows that this is exactly the grace that we need.

God knows what I need. Even if it’s not the cool drink of peace that I desire.
