Verses for the Day – 1 John 4:20-21

Quote

20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister. – 1 John 4:20-21 (NIV)

(Note: I have a hard time with these verses. They ultimately reveal my need to pray.)

How do you feel about the sentiment of being “drunk in the Holy Spirit?”

For me, getting plastered in Him is kind of a consistent exercise. Just toss on some fast crazy music that’s light in lyrics and pray in the spirit and just re-orient my spirit.

If I didn’t do this, I’d be quite a miserable and unkind person.

It’s how I get that stuff off.

  2. Thanks for the reference verse, makes more sense now. For some reason, my mind does not relate the word “drunk” with the word “filled”. But I can see how you would relate the two.

I would say that the “Charismatic stuff” freaks me out only in the sense that I wasn’t raised in a church where that was openly on display. Do I discount the moving of the Holy Spirit? No, not at all. Where you lose me is with speaking in tongues. And again, this is due to a lack of personal experience in this area.
